A lot of people said that Obama gave wonderful speeches. I, however, can never finish listening to any of his speeches. Because I found it’s full of empty words with no substance.
The speeches don’t sound convincing to me because they’re full of theories with no back-up experience or record. For example, he lectures us about being bi-partisan but he himself has a voting record of over 95 % voting with his own party- one of the most partisan voting records in the Senate.
But what frustrates me most is that he always say “ we will”, “ we must”, “we can”.. achieve great thing, but never explain how. (Well, probably because he doesn’t know how). OK , those things are great, but how do we get there? Then he adds the reason that we will achieve is that we’re great, we’re wonderful, we’re a great nation, we’re on the people side. Oh, well. Cut out the B.S, please.
Listening to Obama, I always picture a conversation between a husband and a wife in my head. Here is how it goes:
Husband: Honey, we will buy a mansion overlooking the ocean and build our sweet home there.
Wife: Really? That’s wonderful!
Husband: Honey, we will send our kids to the best school and give them the best education on earth.
Wife: Wow, you excite me.
Husband: We will keep the best doctor to be our family doctor so that we will have excellent health to enjoy our life.
Wife: That’s right! I’m so glad you think of everything.
Husband: Honey, we will travel the world and to expand our horizon
Wife (almost cry of so much emotion): Oh, honey, you read my wishes.
Husband: We will give back to the community by giving lots of money to charity.
Wife: Oh, dear. You have such a good heart. I’m so lucky to have you.
( kissing each other passionately).
Then..
Wife: But honey. How are we going to pay for all this?
Husband: Well, remember , Yes, we can.
Wife: My dear, but a mansion on the beach cost millions of dollas, and tuition is getting more and more expensive, and travelling is not cheap…
Husband: Um, Um. Well, we can always borrow.
Wife: But we’re already in debt. We already spent more that what we earned.
Husband: Let me see, well. I think your rich uncle ought to share his wealth with us.
Wife: Oh, dear, he works really hard for his money. He needs to provide for his family and pay his employees. I would feel guilty taking money from him.
Husband: Well, then, let’s borrow some more.
Wife: But dear, we also have to pay interest on our debt. It will accumulate to a huge amount and we will not be able to pay it off in our lifetime.
Husband: Well, our daughters and grand daughter will pay for it.
Wife: Dear, but do you think it’s ethical? How is it different from stealing from our future generation? Why should they have to pay for our wishes?
Husband (getting irritated) : My love, you’re being too cynical. You must have hope. Let’s be positive and the problem will work itself out.
Wife: Oh, dear…
